Is anyone playing the open beta for this?  Its a hefty download at 8gigs, but saiph and I should be in it before the rapture (aka, Bioshock 2).  Wink

It looks pretty cool. I'm holding off until 2-3 months post release to see if it survives that long.

Managed to get an open beta key, so I'm installing it right now.

It's... well, it's rough around the edges.  The ground missions are quite buggy, and some stuff isn't quite working right.  It's not a bad game, and I see it probably doing well in the future, but it definitely won't be a smooth running game at release.  Not many MMOs are though, so there is that.

Saiph and I have been grouping up for a lot of our stuff, and it really isn't bad.  The space combat is slow though.  Think of naval warfare with its broadsides and such.  The public quest we've done so far is basically just run with the pack and gun the big stuff down as fast as possible.  You "can" go it alone, but only if you're over-leveled or like being a rapidly expanding cloud of exploding gas.  The random missions we've done so far do seem pretty cool, but so many have been bugged out with random bits of mobs despawning, clickies not working, whole zones not working right, etc. that we've had to put them off for a bit just so we don't lose our minds.

All that being said, it is fun to slam your phaser rifle into the face of a klingon sending him flying backwards, or tucking behind a klingon battle cruiser and sending photon torpedoes up its tail pipe.  Smiley

Well, looks like a few of us will be playing this game so far.  I know of sindhal, stellah, saiph, myself and I think shimmer.  If y'all want I'll make a sub-forum for it for any discussion thereof.

I picked it up yesterday.  Seemed ok but most games are ok the first couple of hours.  I have Mass Effect 2 as well and BioShock 2 and Supreme Commander 2 will be required viewing as well.

It's space and not the same ol' tired ass elves, orcs, swords, and magic.  STO is still fantasy because why else would they put in the bust slider (and allow you to change the bust on your bridge officers).

Well, we've got our 5-person fleet setup.  "Ramming Speed" is born.  Of course, when we are all high enough to actually use that skill, much fun will be had...

Ramming Speed would be a pretty good gay porno title.

We think of Army of Darkness and our Poncy Ex-guildmaster thinks of this.  He posts pictures of Wookies.  Now we know why he liked Wolvesight's dwarf so much, he's into body hair.
