I wish I had a macro. I'm running out of fucking wookie pictures available in google image search. And no, I won't post any Star Trek shit. Star Trek is the retarded kid brother to Star Wars, always wishing he could be as cool.

I'm thinking about getting out of MMO's. I don't really want to, they're my passion, but I'm beginning to think that they aren't going to get better. I made a semi-longish post about it in the Star Trek forum based around Cryptic fucking over early-purchasers, but here's a quick summary: No one can beat WoW. If you can't beat WoW, you won't be able to make the big $$$ on subscriptions. If you can't make the big $$$ on subscriptions, are you making anything different from single player games? Well, make an MMO, push box sales as hard and fast as possible to get them out the door. Don't bother making a lasting endgame, because you don't care if people unsubscribe. Do a free content release every three months with a marketing blitz, so that you get everyone who has unsubbed to resub for a month. Put out an xpac every six months to a year if you can to milk some more money cow. Close game two years later/close most of the servers.

If some MMO could freaking prove me wrong, I would love it forever. Seems like they're all following that system though.

Edit: I will still by the Star Wars MMO, and like six other MMO's, because A. Jedi B. Wookies C. I am a consumer whore.

lol, that first part reminded me of an old guild leader I had one time... yeah, things went bad for him. 

We all know Canada doesn't exist.  And I played with you on MW2 once or twice, but couldn't with her as well because of the NAT issues.

As far as MMOs, I think it just depends on the company and if they're willing to put in the work for it.  If Cryptic puts in the effort, they could have a really good game.  Will they?  Odds are, they probably won't.  Thing is, WoW has a pretty transient population as well where people play for a month or two, unsubscribe, pick up the xpack, unsubscribe, etc.  They probably have a larger "hardcore" base than most other MMOs right now because of the endgame grind-fest they've put in place, but their largest saving grace is the amount of people who have played the game in the past and come back every now and then to try the new stuff.  The only thing that is probably going to kill WoW now is WoW.  By that, I mean if they do something incredibly stupid (unlikely at this point), or if they reach the limit to the current game engine/code.  Blizzard will probably be in the process of making WoW 2.0 by that point, but will it ever be the same?

I'm playing STO, not because I think it's the greatest game in the world, but instead because it's decently fun and I get to play with Sindahl, Shimmer, Sarah, and Saiph (funny how all their names start with S, huh?).  I don't play these games to play by myself.  I can do that on countless other games I already own on the xbox and pc.  It really does all depend on who you're doing things with, not just what you're doing.

Right, that makes sense. I missed out on the Candymancers social boat, since I didn't really have anything to do with the guild outside the first month. I was playing Global Agenda with my usual buddies, but it bored the piss out of one of them and he went back to Eve. So at this point I don't really have a social group to MMO with, since everyone is scattered.

So, I picked up Final Fantasy XIII yesterday. I haven't played any of those games since they were on the nintendo or gameboy, and I really hate anime and most of japan. Still not sure why I got it. Every time one of the characters makes a melodramatic statement and pumps his fist I want to throw my controller through the tv.

Did you know the tutorial is basically 15 hours long? That is not an exaggeration. It takes about 15 hours to get to the point in the game where they let you use all of the game features, instead of introducing new bits via tutorial and limiting your access.
